'Slesway', between the Elbe and the Jutland peninsula now known as Schleswig in North Germany, around where the Kiel Canal cuts through the base of the peninsula). However, the main bodies of Germanic groups came from the lower Saxon shore between the Rhine and the Weser - Seaxans - and a majority came from further north in Slesvig (pron. Some of these were Frisians, Vandals and Suevi. Amongst the so-called 'Saxons' were others from nearer or further away than the Saxons. Others, opportunists, freebooters sought to raid in the south-eastern corners of 'Britannia Major' and the Romans had built shore forts to counter these on the Saxon Shore' before they left in the first decade of the 5rh Century.

Some of the Germanic tribes friendly to Rome had been recruited as foederati, federated groups answerable to their own chieftains but ultimately to the emperor. The last legions had finally left by AD 410 for Rome, to defend the heartland of the empire against Barbarian invaders from the east - Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Huns and Lombards - who sought territory against default on their 'sold', or wages by Rome. This blog will do what it can to present many options for the reader to put together an outfit just for their Ranger (although, as a fan of Gondorian/Numenorian lore, I may offer some other options here and there). The Romans slowly began to withdraw in the 4th Century AD. Nevertheless, even with these fantastic outfit sets, many of us Rangers still want that perfect unique Ranger look that defines us and lets us stand out–for me, at least, this is more of an RP issue than anything else. Throughout the past few years, the cosmetic system has been perhaps one of the best features of LOTRO (aside from the lore and the graphics) and especially recently there has been much attention paid to keeping those of us with interests in perfecting that ideal outfit very happy (I am very, very grateful that LOTRO finally added a NPC Ranger outfit for us players). So to Landroval we came (and with a name change: The Dunedain of Ithilien). Alas, after four years Elendilmir has lost a lot of its RPers to other servers, so the Rangers decided it was time to migrate to a place where we would have more successful RP fun. Formerly, Philomandros is the cofounder of the Rangers of Ithilien kinship on Elendilmir (back in those days, there were no designated RP servers), and there was much rejoicing (yay!). Needless to say, however, ‘Ranger’ fits well as a descriptor. After all, you didn’t come here to read my character’s bio, but to check out all those awesome outfit ideas (right?). My main character on Landroval has an interesting back story, and I won’t bore you here. Before I get into the concept behind this project, I’d like to give my new readers some background. When I was creating it I wanted to give him a look of nobility. Of this one I took only one screenshot this is a good leisurely outfit for a Rohan RPer.

The point was to give an appearance of a soldier fighting in a lighthorse company. I used no armor piece with the exception of the helm to tie it all together. The next outfit I tried for a more rustic look thankfully the new Hammerhand set made a really great focal point. I’m very pleased with how this turned out!

Meant to fight at a full gallop, the armor is meant to look like it can withstand a beating. The first set is a fully armored heavy horse soldier. Apologies to my Rohan-purist friends out there. I realize these are all dismounted pictures. Here are a few of my favorite combinations with some action shots thrown in for good measure (I have to say I really like the scalable shield–good job devs!). Given the fact that Helms Deep is right around the corner (and like a giddy little kid I went out and bought the most expensive addition with all the little perks and such), I started to fiddle around with the three different sets of Rohan armor to see what sorts of Rohan-ish type coolness I could make. But first and foremost, I need to shift gears slightly and dig deep to find my Rohan side. Life had taken hold and I could not escape its grasp! Back now, though, and have a few new outfits lined up to display.
